Where is God amongst all the bombardment of our senses
We grapple with the things that we don't get and build up fences
Sometimes we block out the concepts we can't understand
For if there are no answers, seeking them will drive us mad.
Is He finding ways to measure the days of his existence
While the world prays does he stand in the continuity of fitness
Is he locked inside the wide expanse of empty space and time
Or are these simply lies that wait for truth to be defined.
Many pilgrims have sought God by journeying to holy shrines
Praying long and tearful prayers and begging Him for signs.
Searching stars and sun and moon for any indication
that somewhere in the sky above lives He who formed creation.
Some have stared for years at soil, rocks and trees and beasts
and now have almost turned to stone from standing in one place
One man can only search his soul so long a time before
he ventures inward gingerly and shuts the one-way door.
Balance in this world it seems is all that keeps it present
and one cannot afford to dream too far in one direction
For those who dreamed in ages past would venture outward blindly
falling deep, despondence crushed and buried them all finally.
Others cried out in their hearts and found rest in their faith
and with believing found the nerve to blindly tempt the fates
And going further than the rest still sought to further go
and reached the end of earth and sea and fought the fierce unknown.
They battled woe, and darkness pressing, grappled their defiance
but perseverance on their side brought light on math and science
and faith brought gifts of courage to the fathers sons in battle
and many sons to many wars, as politicians cattle.
They rise and fall, the kings of men, the sons of men and die
They fight and lose but fight again for honor, truth and lies
The blood will run, the sun will rise, and cries will pierce the skies
But none will rise and none will live for men are never wise.
