Monk in the Forest

Little feet tip toed hesitant
through the deep and dark
forest tall as mountain peaks
stretched out like a park.

Dreamy rays of sunshine
filtered through the veins
leaving tiny cloaked monks
dizzy in their brains.

Stretching out upon their backs
lying in the leaves
tiny hooded monks did yawn
falling fast asleep.

Yet one monk was wide awake
toddled off to swim
followed by a lime green snake
yellow eyes on him.

All upon the forest trail
stalked the monk he was
innocent he pads along
picking up the dust.

Till at last he sees the snake
eyes bulge large as rocks
racing off he runs so fast
he falls out of his socks.

Faster, faster yet he runs
never looking back
till at last he passes out
falling face first - flat.

There he lies out cold
light begins to fade
death looks for a little monk
and slithers through the shade.

Looking down upon his meal
Yellow eyes survey
furry flesh to widening mouth
about to bite his prey....

Right then monk awakes
looking up he froze
then closed his eyes resigned
and curled up his toes.

A moment passes yet
he opens up one eye
an eagle holds a limp snake
that waves a sad goodbye.
