Seasons

Gardens swell and burst with food

Grandma cans her beans

cowhands sell their grown up calves

and make a little green.

Pretty red and yellow leaves

dance by a muddy pool

children walk and laugh as they

go traipsing back to school.

Chilly winds make naked trees

as clouds block out the sky

summer’s time for weddings but

the fall is when we die.

Black clad figures, thin and stiff

go home and mourn the dead

while on swift wings the winter comes

to tuck them into bed.

From the ashes neath the snow

purple buds burst free

the celebration of new life

burst forth from old debris.
